KENT — Former Findlay High School standout Tyler Brown won a pair of events for Eastern Michigan and McComb state champ Jackie Leppelmeier helped Kent State win the team championship at last weekend’s Mid American Conference indoor track and field championships at the Kent Field House.
Brown, a freshman, cruised to victory in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 47.07 seconds. He shaved more than a second off his preliminary time and ran the eighth-fastest 400-meter dash time in Eastern Michigan history.
He also ran the anchor leg on the Eagles’ winning 1,600-meter relay (3:10.69) and finished sixth in the long jump (22-101/2).
Another former area competitor, Pandora-Gilboa’s Ellie Braidic, was fourth in the pole vault for Eastern Michigan with a jump of 13-51/4.
Leppelmeier helped Kent State win its third straight MAC indoor title by finishing second in weight throw with a toss of 68-1/4.
She also added a fourth-place effort in the shot put with a throw of 50-41/2.
