Hardin Northern has been officially accepted into the Northwest Central Conference, according to an email issued by league commissioner Dave May on Wednesday.
Hardin Northern will become the ninth member overall and eighth football-playing school in the NWCC, and will add some balance in the conference scheduling. Of the eight current NWCC schools, Fort Loramie competes in the league in football only.
Other schools in the league include Lima Perry, Upper Scioto Valley, Ridgemont, Waynesfield-Goshen, Riverside, Sidney Lehman and Lima Temple Christian. Lima Temple Christian does not field a football team.
Low numbers forced Hardin Northern to drop its varsity football program and play a junior varsity schedule last season. The Polar Bears, a member of the Blanchard Valley Conference since the inception of the BVC in 1965, return to a varsity schedule this season as an independent.
According to May’s email, Hardin Northern will compete in all NWCC varsity sports except football during the 2014-15 school year, and be added to the league’s football schedule in 2015-2016.
