Area colleges: Breitigam 14th in final event at NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio Northern’s Jordan Breitigam finished 14th in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday at the 2014 NCAA Division III men’s swimming and diving championships in Indianapolis.
Breitigam’s time of 1:50.37 in the “B” consolation finals earned the ONU senior honorbale mention all-American honors in the event for the third time in his career.
Track team picked 2nd
ADA — Ohio Northern University’s men’s track and field team was picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season by a vote of the conference’s head coaches.
The Polar Bears received 71 points and one first place vote.
Mount Union was picked first with 81 points and nine first place votes, Ohio Northern was second and John Carroll was third with 60 points.
The Polar Bears were picked to finish sixth in the OAC women’s track and field standings.
Defending champion Mount Union was picked to finish first with 81 points and nine first place votes, Baldwin Wallace was chosen second with 66 points and one first place vote and Otterbein was slated to finish third with 64 points.
Ohio Northern opened its outdoor season on Friday at the Washington & Lee (Va.) Carnival.
