UF baseball: Malone sweeps Oilers

MOUNT VERNON — Joe Sickler drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Malone reliever Branden Carey got out of the jam to protect a 4-3 win and complete the Pioneers’ doubleheader sweep of the University of Findlay baseball team on Friday.
Malone also won the opener, 3-1, in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup played at Mount Vernon University’s Cougar Stadium.
UF trimmed a 4-0 deficit in half with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then rallied in the seventh before Carey retired the Oilers. UF (3-9, 0-2 GLIAC) managed just four hits in the game, two of them singles by Logan Harrah. Hayden Mobley, who had two hits for Malone in the opener, had a two-run single in game two.
Logan Gray doubled in two runs in a three-run fourth inning and Matt Wheeler had a double and two singles to lead Malone (7-11, 2-1 GLIAC) in the first game. Sickler had two of Findlay’s three hits, including a solo home run in the first inning.
