UF Track: Welch hammers the competition at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. — The University of Findlay’s Justin Welch was an easy winner in the men’s hammer throw Saturday to lead the Oilers in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State.
Welch, a junior, had little problem topping the predominantly Division I field as he won his specialty with a toss of 230-1, nearly 19 feet better than runner-up Antonio James of Michigan State (211-7).
Junior Dillon Webster also put together a solid performance in the 800-meter run by placing eighth in 1:50.37.
Senior Marcus Vicars finished fifth in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 54-4¾. Freshman Alexander Zolotoglavyy also earned a top-eight finish for the Oilers by placing sixth in the long jump (23-5½).
In the women’s meet, Kendra Averesch set a school record in the women’s shot put. Averesch, a junior from Leipsic, finished fourth in the women’s shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record toss of 47-8½.
Elmwood graduate and Bowling Green State University freshman Kori Reiser won the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 182-6.
