UF sports: Lake Erie defeats Oilers in extra innings

Zack DeCamp’s third hit of the game, a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning, gave Lake Erie College a 4-3 win over the University of Findlay on Monday in the final matchup of a three-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series at Fifth Third Field.
UF lost a 2-0 lead, then rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning on Joe Sickler’s grounder. DeCamp, who had singled in a run during a two-run rally in the seventh inning, then homered off UF reliever Collin Parrill in the tenth.
DeCamp had three hits and Lucas Raley (2B, 1B) and Dylan Yankle (2B, 1B) two each for Lake Erie (11-10, 5-3 GLIAC). UF had five hits, one of them a double by Jordan Garcia.
UF (6-12, 3-5 GLIAC) is back in action today when the Oilers host Saginaw Valley State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Marathon Diamonds.

Hunt paces men’s golf
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Marcus Hunt fired a 1-under-par 71 on Monday to lead the University of Findlay men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish in the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational held at the Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind.
Hunt finished the two-day tournament with a 74-71–145 total. Dustin Lieber (76-77) carded a 153, Matthew Fisher (78-77) a 155, and Jack Kastor (76-83) and Stephen Sinchok (81-78) both shot 159s.
UF finished with a 304-303–607 total. Indianapolis went 296-290–586 to win the event.
UF will compete this weekend in the second NCAA Regional of the year. The tournament will be played at the Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.

Women’s golf fourth
COLUMBUS — Brooke Albers tied for medalist honors with a 72 on Monday in helping the University of Findlay women’s golf team finish fourth in the Ohio Dominican University Invitational. Kasey Petty added a 79, Shelby Warner an 81 and Emily Mock an 87 for UF’s 321 team total.
Coaches honor Welch
University of Findlay junior thrower Justin Welch has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week.
Welch dominated a field that included several Division I throwers when he won the hammer throw at the Raleigh (N.C.) Relays. His throw of 230-feet, 1-inch not only set a school record but was also the fourth longest hammer throw in NCAA Division II history.
Hargrove named
Drew Hargrove, a senior on the University of Findlay baseball team, has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Hargrove allowed 11 hits and only one run in 15 innings work last week. He went eight innings but did not get the decision in UF’s 2-1 win over Tiffin, then threw a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over Lake Erie. The 6-foot-3 left-hander is 2-3 on the season with a 3.89 earned run average and 28 strikeouts in 412/3 innings.
