Prep softball: Falcons knock off L-B

Riverdale’s Taylor Farmer gave up an unearned run in the first inning but pitched shutout ball the rest of the way as the Falcons beat Liberty-Benton 7-1 in nonleague softball action on Tuesday.
Cayley Trutt had a two-run single and Farmer (2-1B), Hanna Morris (2-1B) and Victoria Penwell (1B) drove in runs as well.
Madie Pape took the loss for L-B (0-1), but did strike out 11 Riverdale batters.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Taylor Kirian’s sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning plated the go-ahead run and the senior picked up the victory in the circle as New Riegel topped Upper Sandusky 3-2 in nonleague play Tuesday.
The University of Akron commit went seven innings, allowed two hits and struck out six, while yielding one earned run and no walks.
Kirian also doubled and singled and Brittany Gillig added two singles for the Blue Jackets (2-0).
Maranda Stansberry and Sara Gier each singled, while Kyla Cusac took the loss in the circle for the Rams (1-1).

HAMLER — A four-run first inning held up for Patrick Henry on Tuesday as the Patriots downed Van Buren 4-0 in a nonconference softball game.
Alison Imbrock threw the shutout, recording three strikeouts and allowing three hits. Deanna Maas had a run-scoring double in the first for Patrick Henry (2-0), and Rachel Nye had two singles.
Van Buren (1-1) pitcher Nichole Miller struck out nine and added a base hit.

OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf scored four runs in the bottom of the first and added runs every inning after that in chalking up a 12-1 five-inning win over Leipsic.
Megan Kitchen got the win in O-G’s season opener, allowing three hits, striking out seven and walking one. Kristen Miller had two base hits and Lyndsay Pritchard and McKenzie Brinkman doubled for O-G (1-0).

BLUFFTON — Bluffton’s Mackayla Wilson was 4-for-4 at the plate with two-run home runs in the first and sixth innings in leading the Pirates to a 6-2 victory against Carey in nonleague softball action on Tuesday.
Wlson also ha a double and a single to back the four-hit pitching of Sami Fruchey, who struck out three and walked two to pick up her second win of the season.
Sydney Wentling took the loss, striking out five and issuing four walks. Hannah Draper had a double and a single to lead Carey (0-2).

FOSTORIA — Woodmore’s Madeline Phillips struck out 10 batters and yielded no walks in seven innings for a perfect game in a 5-0 victory against Fostoria St. Wendelin in nonconference action Tuesday.
The Wildcats plated one run in each of the first three innings and added two more in the fourth to go ahead 5-0 while the Mohawks (0-1) struggled offensively.
Hana Zollinger finished with three singles and an RBI, while Courtney Clowers contributed a pair of singles and drove in three runs for Woodmore.
Meghan Reiter suffered the loss for St. Wendelin.

TONTOGANY — Otsego scored five times in the bottom of the third inning and held off North Baltimore the rest of the way to post a 9-5 nonlegaue softball win over the Tigers.
Tayler Bowen had a two-run home run and tripled for Otsego (1-1). Winning pitcher Kylie Asmus and Paige Ireland added two hits each.
Jamine Bretz drove in two runs with a home run and a double for North Baltimore (1-1).

LIMA — Cailah Ricker and McKenna Scott combined for five of Continental’s nine hits and drove in four runs as the Pirates pounded Lima Perry 11-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
Ricker doubled, singled twice and had two RBIs, while Scott added a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
Emma Recker allowed two hits in five innings, while striking out six and not issuing a walk to earn the victory.

FOSTORIA — Fostoria took advantage of five Old Fort errors on Tuesday and outlasted the Stockaders 4-2 in a nonleague matchup.
The Redmen scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and come away with the win.
Erica Moore picked up the victory to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Alexus Smith and Shelby Lamb each singled twice for Fostoria (1-1).
Jordan Magers sustained the loss in the circle, while Addi Reineck and Peyton Miller each singled for the Stockaders only hits.

Bailey Bergman doubled and drove in two runs, Mackenzie Swary had a single and two RBIs and Libby Stabler finished with a pair or singles and an RBI for the Raiders (1-0).
Molly Crosby struck out 10 and walked two, while allowing three hits in five innings to earn the win in the circle.
Nikki Burgei doubled to lead the Big Green.
