College baseball: SVSU drops Oilers, 6-3

Saginaw Valley State’s Luke Valutis and Chris Perkovich lined RBI doubles during a three-run fifth inning that powered the Cardinals to a 6-3 win over the University of Findlay on Wednesday in the third and final game of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball series at Fifth Third Field.
Kyle Kaufmann (2-1B) plated a run with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly as Saginaw Valley broke a 2-2 tie and took the lead for good with its three-run rally.
Valutis also had RBI singles in the first and sixth innings for SVS (5-14, 2-7 GLIAC). Dylin Eschenburg (2-1B, 2B) and Michael Craig (3-1B) had three hits each and Perkovich and Kaufmann both had two.
Matt Stojkov got the win, limiting UF to just two runs through eight innings despite giving up seven hits and walking eigh. The Oilers rallied in the ninth, with Joe Sickler’s bases-loaded single trimming the deficit to 6-3. Reliever Aaron Langlois then calked up his third strikeout of the inning to end it.
Sickler, Reid Rothenbuhler and Kevin Schrock all had RBI singles. Jon Walker, the second of four UF pitchers, took the loss for the Oilers (8-13, 5-6 GLIAC).
