Prep Baseball: Van Buren takes pair from Bluffton

BLUFFTON — Van Buren’s baseball team exploded for a combined 35 runs on 34 hits, including a pair of home runs from Isaac Sexton, and the Black Knights swept a doubleheader with Bluffton on Saturday.
Sexton drilled a 3-run home run in the first inning of the opening game. He added a double, single and six RBIs as Van Buren withstood a 10-run fifth inning from Bluffton.
Jameson Jacobs ripped five doubles and had eight RBIs for the Black Knights (2-1) in the second game, and Sexton added another home run and picked up the win on the mound.
Chris McClain had a combined two doubles, three singles and home run for Bluffton (2-2), and Drake Luginbuhl had four singles.

BUCYRUS — Wynford scored four runs in each of the first two innings against Carey and cruised to a 10-0 win in five innings in a nonconference baseball game on Saturday.
Logan Leitzy picked up the win, allowing four hits and striking out five in five innings. Brock Williamson had an RBI double and RBI single, while Gage Roe’s two singles and two RBIs helped Wynford improve to 2-1.

ARLINGTON — Arlington could only muster eight hits and committed seven errors in a pair of nonleague losses, 3-2 and 8-4, against Allen East on Saturday.
John Solt doubled, Jordan Freed doubled and drove in a run and Tyler Richards singled twice for the Red Devils (1-2).
Freed and Nick Affholder suffered the losses on the mound.
Travis Wireman homered, doubled and had four RBIs for Allen East (3-0).

DOLA — Columbus Grove’s Joshua Verhoff ripped two doubles, two singles and drove in four runs to lead the Bulldogs over Hardin Northern 11-2 in nonconference baseball action Saturday.
Tanner Neu picked up the win for Columbus Grove (1-1), allowing two earned runs on five hits in four innings pitched. He also struck out nine batters.
Kyle Lamb had three singles for Hardin Northern (0-3), and Jacob Gossard struck out nine batters in six innings pitched, and allowed nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits in the loss.

BASCOM — A seventh inning rally in the second game gave Hopewell-Loudon a clean sweep of Upper Sandusky, 14-7 and 11-10, in nonleague competition on Saturday.
Garret Sendelbach earned the victory in relief in the first game and picked up the win in the second contest after making the start on the mound.
Bryan Scherger homered, doubled, singled and drove in four runs, Tyler Imes finished with a double, two singles and four RBIs and Jackson Sebetto added five singles, a double and an RBI for the Chieftains (3-0).
Carson Mittermaier belted a home run to go with a double, a single and six RBIs for the Rams (2-2).
