Prep tennis: Sylvania Southview edges Trojans 3-2

Sylvania Southview’s doubles teams both won matches after taking tight first sets as the Cougars posted a 3-2 win over Findlay High’s tennis team on Monday in a match moved indoors to the YMCA.

Southview’s Jason Bigler and Mathew Rothchild defeated Jake Elbin and Ian Laird 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Shaheen Goel and Eric Zhu topped Hyunchul Lee and Logan Sullivan 7-5, 6-1.

Southview, the defending Northern Lakes League champion, clinched its second win in three matches with Nathan Padolsky’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Brent Gorman at No. 3 singles.

Findlay (1-1) swept the top two singles matches, with Reid Teatsorth (No. 1) beating M.J. Haider 6-1, 6-0 and Max MacDonald taking a second-set tiebreaker to outlast Michael Burchfield 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Findlay will host Toledo St. Francis in its Three Rivers Athletic Conference opener today, then hit road for matches Wednesday at Lima Shawnee and Thursday at Toledo Central Catholic.
