BVC softball: VB nips Vanlue in BVC opener

VAN BUREN — Robyn Flick rapped three singles and Kila Fultz got the win in the circle striking out eight as the Van Buren edged Vanlue 6-5 in the Blanchard Valley Conference softball opener for both teams on Wednesday.
Nichole Miller and Fultz both had a pair of singles and Olivia Sattler added an RBI triple for the Black Knights (4-1 overall, 1-0 BVC).
Haley Bonham had two singles, Olivia Kliesch smacked an RBI double and Courtney Keeney also doubled for Vanlue (1-1, 0-1).

ARCADIA — Arcadia’s Ashley Baird and Alisha Baird had more similarities than just being twin sisters in Wednesday’s game against McComb.
Both players ripped a 3-run home run in the first inning as Arcadia demolished McComb 17-0 in five innings in Blanchard Valley Conference softball action.
Arcadia (4-0, 2-0 BVC) scored 12 runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Courtney Cramer and Maddie Mock each had two singles and two RBIs, and Ashley Baird picked up the win on the mound to improve to 4-0.
Bridgette Swartz and Haley Buck each had two singles for McComb (1-3, 0-1 BVC) which had five hits and five errors.

Hardin Northern’s Addy Bame pitched a four-hitter and struck out 14 Liberty-Benton batters in hurling the Polar Bears to a 7-4 Blanchard Valley Conference softball win over the Eagles on Wednesday.
Hardin Northern (2-1, 1-0 BVC) led just 4-3 entering the seventh inning. But Brooklyn Watts gave Bame and the Polar Bears a it of breathing room, drilling a two-run triple to highlight a three-run rally.
Maddi Pape had three doubles and drove in two runs for Liberty-Benton (0-3, 0-2 BVC).

PANDORA — Pandora-Gilboa scored 17 runs on just five hits as the Rockets rolled to a 17-4 Blanchard Valley Conference softball win over Leipsic on Wednesday.
Megan Maag allowed four runs on five hits to get the win for Pandora-Gilboa (1-3 overall, 1-0 BVC). Vivian Nofziger had a pair of hits and three RBIs for the Rockets.
Alexis Escamilla had a hit and three RBIs for the Vikings (0-5, 0-1).

ARLINGTON — Arlington’s softball team exploded for 20 runs on 20 hits as the Red Devils crushed Cory-Rawson 20-0 in five innings in a Blanchard Valley Conference matchup Wednesday.
Britnee Johnson had a triple, double, two singles and six RBIs at the plate and picked up the win on the mound for Arlington (3-0, 1-0 BVC). Erin Helms also had four hits, all singles, and three RBIs for the Red Devils.
Katie Henry had two singles and picked up the loss for Cory-Rawson (0-3, 0-1 BVC).
