Prep baseball: Turner, Knights shut down Vanlue

VANLUE — Schyuler Turner allowed just four hits in seven scoreless innings for Van Buren as the Black Knights improved to 4-1 with a 4-0 win over Vanlue in Blanchard Valley Conference baseball action Wednesday.
Chance Sonnenberg had a double and two singles to lead Van Buren, and Turner struck out six and had no walks.
Nick Hagerty allowed four runs (one earned) in five innings for Vanlue (1-1, 0-1 BVC), which had three errors as well.

Liberty-Benton’s Jared Neiling pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out 13, in leading the Eagles to a 2-0 win over Hardin Northern in Blanchard Valley Conference baseball action Wednesday.
Alex Harter hit three singles for Liberty-Benton (2-0, 1-0 BVC).
Hardin Northern (0-4, 0-1 BVC) also got a solid pitching effort from Jacob Gossard, who allowed two earned runs on six hits in six innings.

ARLINGTON — Arlington scored two runs in the second inning and that was all it needed to post a 2-1 win over Cory-Rawson in a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game on Wednesday.
Nick Affholder struck out 14 batters and walked three to pick up his second win of the season for Arlington (3-2, 1-0 BVC). Kyle McDowell had two singles, and Affholder and Jordan Freed each had a double for the Red Devils.

ARCADIA — Arcadia’s pitchers surrendered 16 walks in a 13-0 loss to McComb on Wednesday in a Blanchard Valley Conference matchup.
The Panthers (2-1, 1-0 BVC) built on a 4-0 lead by scoring five in the sixth inning and four in the seventh.
Clay Dysert singled twice and drove in a run while Clay Grubb and Blake Glaser each singled with an RBI. Grubb was also the winning pitcher.
Dylan Conine and Sawyer Kieffer each singled for Arcadia’s only hits.
Chad Baker took the loss on the mound as the Redskins fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the BVC.
