Reid Teatsorth and Jake Elbin won third-set tie-breakers and Findlay’s singles players all posted three-set wins to give the Trojans a 3-2 boys tennis win over Lima Shawnee at the FHS Courts on Wednesday.
Teatsorth, down 6-5 in the third set, broke back, fought off match point and beat Shawnee’s Jason Barton, a Division II state qualifier last season, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 singles.
Elbin dropped the first set at No. 3 singles and trailed 5-4 in the third. The sophomore battled back, though, beating Ruthvik Avvari 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Max MacDonald also went three sets at No. 2 singles in topping Shawnee’s Avinash Rajasekaran 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Lima Shawnee (2-1) took the doubles matches, but both were tight. Timmy Rutter and Carter Jones got past Findlay’s Ian Laird and Brent Gorman 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Chris Mart and Troy Brinkman (No. 2) won a first-set tiebreaker in beating Hyunchul Lee and Logan Sullivan 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
Findlay (2-2) is back in action today at the FHS Courts when the Trojans host Toledo Central Catholic in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference contest.
