Prep baseball: Carey rallies to stun Chieftains

CAREY — Down 6-5 Carey scored four in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock off Hopewell-Loudon 9-6, for its first baseball win over the Chieftains in more than a decade.
Brady Mullholand’s two-run single was the big blow in the sixth inning as the Blue Devils improved to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the Midland Athletic League.
Satchel Strahm had a big day at the plate with two singles, a triple and two RBIs. Noah McCartney had a double with two RBIs and Matthew Holsinger added an RBI single for Carey.
Logan Tyree smashed two doubled and two singles with two RBIs and Garret Sendelbach had two singles and an RBI for the Chieftains (7-7, 2-2).

SYCAMORE — New Riegel’s Michael Kirian allowed an unearned run on three hits in five innings pitched, and ripped a double and drove in three runs at the plate as the Blue Jackets handed Mohawk its first Midland Athletic League loss, 6-1, in baseball action on Wednesday.
New Riegel (4-7, 2-1 MAL) scored four runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Aaron Reinhart singled twice and drove in two runs for the Blue Jackets, while Jake Dryfuse and Aaron Acree each had two hits.
Austin Shock picked up the loss for Mohawk (5-4, 2-1 MAL), allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out four in 52/3 innings.

NORTH BALTIMORE — Fremont St. Joseph struck for five runs in the first inning and survived a five-run sixth inning from North Baltimore to escape with a 7-6 Midland Athletic League win in baseball action on Wednesday.
Marcus Kerr doubled and singled to lead Fremont St. Joseph (3-8, 2-2 MAL).
Brock Boyer pitched a complete game for North Baltimore (2-10, 1-2 MAL), allowing five earned runs on six hits and striking out six as well. Levi Newcomer singled twice and Zach Stewart doubled.

KANSAS — Lakota managed just one baserunner in the first two innings against Fostoria St. Wendelin starter Donovan Scudder on Wednesday. But the Raiders sent 13 men to plate in the third inning and 12 in the fourth in rolling to a 16-0 Midland Athletic League win over the Mohawks.
Dakota Gilbert collected two of his three hits and scored twice during Lakota’s nine-run burst in the third inning. Madison Jaso also had three hits for the Raiders (2-6, 1-1 MAL).
Lakota starter Nick Watts struck out the first five batters he faced and fanned 11 in five innings. He allowed just two hits, doubles by Trent Whetsel and Donovan Scudder.

FOSTORIA — Fostoria fell victim to seven errors and three pickoff plays in a 10-5 loss to Lake on Wednesday in Northern Buckeye Conference play at Grant Jackson Field.
The Redmen (8-4 overall, 2-1 NBC) led 4-2 after three innings but surrendered eight straight runs over the next four innings.
Lance Smith doubled and singled, while Noah Hammer and Donovan Vogel each singled twice as the Redmen outhit the Flyers 11-7.
Brad Ackerman picked up the win on the mound and Adam Duncan singled twice as the Flyers improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in NBC play.
Kaleb Bemis (1-2) took the loss.

ROSSFORD — Elmwood’s Trevor Solether outlasted Rossford’s Marty Linthicum on the mound, and Jacob Wise’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning was enough to give the Royals a 2-1 win in Northern Buckeye Conference baseball action Wednesday.
Solether (4-1) pitched a complete game, striking out seven and walking two, for Elmwood (6-6, 1-2 NBC). Phillip Buckingham and Nick Gillett each hit two singles, and Tyler Stone had an RBI-single in the first inning.
Linthicum pitched five innings, allowed two runs and struck out three while walking three as well. Jacob Schimming singled twice to lead Rossford (4-6, 0-3 NBC) at the plate.

BUCURUS — The scenery was different, but unfortunately for Upper Sandusky’s baseball team, the outcome was not as the Rams dropped a 6-2 North Central Conference decision at Wynford.
Mason Davis, Jalon Brown and Gage Roe had RBI singles for Wynford, which knocked Upper Sandusky out of a share for the NCC lead with an 8-6 win over the Rams on Tuesday.
Sam Plott had two of Upper Sandusky’s six hits.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale’s Tristan Davis ripped five singles, scored three runs and drove in a run and the Falcons broke a 7-7 tie with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock off Crestline 13-7 in a North Central Conference baseball game Wednesday.
Riverdale (4-8, 2-4 NCC) tallied six runs in the first inning and one in the second, but Crestline (3-8, 1-5 NCC), after scoring a run in the first, added three in both the third and fifth innings to tie the game at seven.
Grant Loveridge hit two singles and drove in a run while earning the win for the Falcons.

BLUFFTON — Fort Jennings scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and that was all pitcher Dylan Van Loo needed as the Musketeers upset Bluffton 5-3 in a nonleague baseball game on Wednesday.
Van Loo allowed three earned runs on six hits in seven innings pitched, and hit two singles and a double at the plate. Mark Metzger and Ryan Rau each singled twice as well for Fort Jennings (4-10).
Austin Brickner tripled and Drake Luginbill doubled for Bluffton (7-5).
