ARLINGTON — Arlington built a 5-0 lead, weathered Arcadia’s comeback bid, and took a huge step toward what could be a third straight Blanchard Valley Conference softball championship with a 5-2 victory over the Redskins in a matchup of BVC unbeatens on Wednesday.
Arlington, which shared the BVC title with Liberty-Benton in 2012 and won it outright a year ago, improved to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
The Red Devils travel to Hardin Northern (6-2 overall, 4-0 BVC) on Monday in a backyard showdown that will go a long way in deciding this year’s conference champion.
Megan Johnson did not hit a home run for the third straight game. But the sophomore second baseman did single, double, triple and drive in a run to headline Arlington’s offense.
Courtney Stultz had two hits for the Red Devils, and winning pitcher Britnee Johnson added an RBI single.
Megan Hill and Courtney Cramer had two hits each for Arcadia (8-2, 4-1 BVC).
One of Hills’ hits was an RBI single during Arcadia’s two-run rally in the top of the sixth inning.
Britnee Johnson eventually pitched her way out of trouble, though, and Arlington locked down the win.
