Prep baseball: Big rally in 6th lifts L-B past Van Buren

VAN BUREN — Liberty-Benton scored all six of its’ runs in the top of the sixth inning to knock off Van Buren 6-5 in a battle of two of the top Blanchard Valley Conference baseball teams on Thursday.
Van Buren was on cruise control with a 5-0 lead before the Eagles’ big rally helped them improve to 16-1 overall and 7-0 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. Liberty-Benton can win at least a share of its first BVC baseball crown since 2009 today when the Eagles host Cory-Rawson.
Jared Neiling and Josh Ostrander each had two hits for Liberty-Benton (16-1, 7-0 BVC). Alex Harter earned the win on the mound by pitching a complete game, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, and striking out six batters and walking five.
Drew Conner and Brandon Bell combined for four singles and three RBIs for Van Buren (10-5, 4-2 BVC). Jameson Jacobs suffered the loss allowing six runs (one earned) on nine hits in six innings.

FOSTORIA — McComb scored five runs in the first inning and added four more in the sixth as the Panthers cruised past Fostoria St. Wendelin 11-1 in six innings in a nonconference baseball game.
Travis Clark doubled and singled twice for McComb (13-3), which collected 13 hits. Trent Whetsel had an RBI-double for the Mohawks (2-15).

DOLA — Kenton scored in each of the first four innings, including an 11-run fourth frame, to top Hardin Northern 20-5 in a nonleague matchup.
Seth Conover hit a three-run home run, Connor Jones singled twice, doubled and drove home two runs and Tristan Reichelderfer added a single and two RBIs for Kenton (4-11).
Jacob Gossard homered and singled, Camron Deckling doubled and had two RBIs and Kyle Lamb tallied an RBI single for Hardin Northern (0-12).

KALIDA — Jeffrey Knueve pitched seven strong innings as Kalida stopped Cory-Rawson 7-2 in a nonconference baseball game.
Knueve allowed just two runs on three hits over seven innings while striking out 11 batters. Noah Lambert had two singles and two RBIs for the Wildcats (6-10).
Logan Cawley had a two-run single for the Hornets (2-10).
