Prep Tennis: Findlay second in TRAC tournament

TOLEDO — Findlay High School’s boys tennis team got solid performances throughout its entire lineup Saturday as the Trojans finished second in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference tournament at Jermain Park.
The Trojans managed to finish second in all three singles divisions and at No. 1 doubles to earn to finish second in the tournament to powerful Toledo St. John’s and finish in a tie for second overall in the final league standings with Toledo St. Francis.
Toledo St. John’s topped Findlay 38-34 in the tournament standings as St. Francis was third with 29 points. The Titans won the overall title, which is based on finishes in league matches and tournament placement, with 16 points. The Trojans and Knights tied with 13 points.
Findlay No. 1 singles player Reid Teatsorth had a walkover win against Toledo Whitmer’s Matt Gullett before outlasting Toledo St. John’s Rajeev Laungani in the semifinals, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in a match that took 2½ hours to complete.
Teatsorth fell in the final to top-seeded Dugan Delp of Toledo Central Catholic 6-1, 6-4.
The Trojans Max MacDonald also had to win a three-set decision to make the No. 2 singles final. He whipped Oregon Clay’s Noah Durczynkis 6-0, 6-1 in his opener and stopped St. Francis’ Louis Filipiak 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 in the semifinals.
He was the only player in the division to even record a win against Toledo St. John’s Adam Zychowicz in the tournament as McDonald fell 6-4, 6-0 in the final.
Jake Elbin rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Whitmer’s Ryan Kusic and a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Toledo Central Catholic’s Drew Dominiak at third singles before losing to St. John’s Kevin Brown, 6-0, 6-0 in the championship match.
The Trojans’ Ian Laird and Brent Gorman led the way at No. 1 doubles by earning a runner-up finish.
They knocked off Whitmer’s Sean Hafner and Kathrine Zolciak, 6-0, 6-0 and St. Francis’ Tommy Manahan and Ethan Bevington 6-2, 6-1 before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to St. John’s Jonah Carter and Ryan Brown.
Hyunchul Lee and Logan Sullivan ended up third in the No. 2 doubles bracket.
They stopped Toledo Central Catholic’s John Scally and Jacob Lepiarz 6-1, 6-0 but dropped a 6-2, 7-5 match to Toledo St. Francis’ Lucas Kasper and Javier Gomez, 6-0, 6-0.
The Findlay duo rebounded to take down Fremont Ross’ Dylan Henry and Marshall Kuieck, 6-4, 6-4
The Trojans play its Senior Day match against Wapakoneta Monday at 4:30 p.m. before hitting the road for a nonconference match against Celina in Tuesday.
