Prep baseball: Eagles claim outright BVC crown

LEIPSIC — Jared Neiling allowed four hits, while striking out 10 and not issuing a walk in seven innings to improve to 8-0 on the season as Liberty-Benton dropped Leipsic 6-0 to capture the outright Blanchard Valley Conference championship on Monday.

The Eagles, who improved to 19-1 overall and 9-0 in the BVC, took down the three-time defending BVC champion Vikings to earn their first outright title since 1994.

Caleb Russell singled twice and drove in a pair of runs, Alex Harter added two singles and an RBI, while Anthony Webb and Parker Lease each notched a single and an RBI for Liberty-Benton.

Leipsic (6-14, 3-3 BVC) had just four hits, all singles, and committed three errors in the game.

Liberty-Benton will take on Patrick Henry today at Fifth Third Field in Toledo. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

RAWSON — Taylor Reardon pitched a two-hitter and Mitch Schroeder doubled, tripled and scored twice in McComb’s 9-1 Blanchard Valley Conference baseball win over Cory-Rawson on Monday.

McComb built a 7-1 lead through three innings and took advantage of nine Cory-Rawson errors in upping its record to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the BVC.

Lance Butler took the loss for Cory-Rawson (2-14, 2-4 BVC), but did have one of the Hornets’ two hits, an RBI triple in the first inning.

ARCADIA — Tyler Wingate tripled and drove in three runs as part of a six-run fifth inning for Vanlue as the Wildcats dropped Arcadia 6-0 in Blanchard Valley Conference play on Monday.

Sam Wagner, who earned the victory on the mound, singled and drove in a run for Vanlue (3-12, 2-6 BVC).

Arcadia (2-13, 1-7) mustered four singles for its only hits of the game.

VAN BUREN — Pitcher Jameson Jacobs allowed just one run on six hits as Van Buren rolled to an 11-1 Blanchard Valley Conference baseball win over Pandora-Gilboa.

Jacobs helped his own cause with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Schuler Turner had three singles and an RBI and Isaac Sexton had a pair of singles with a run batted in as well for the Black Knights (12-5, 5-2 BVC).

Alex Osborn and Dustin Rieman both had a pair of hits for Pandora-Gilboa (8-10, 3-5).

DOLA — Jordan Freed had four RBIs, and Nick Affholder and Tyler Richard each drove in three runs Monday as Arlington defeated Hardin Northern 16-1 in a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game.

Affholder struck out six and allowed one hit in four innings for the Red Devils (13-4, 6-2 BVC). Freed had four if Arlington’s 12 stolen bases.

Bret Roby had an RBI single for Hardin Northern (0-14, 0-7 BVC).
