Prep baseball: McComb crowns Knights in slugfest

VAN BUREN — A five-run sixth inning helped pave the way for McComb to knock off Van Buren 12-9 in a Blanchard Valley Conference slugfest.

Seven McComb batters had multi-hit games Clay Grubb had three singles and an RBI while Mitch Schroeder also had three singles for the Panthers (16-3 overall, 8-1 BVC).

Jameson Jacobs had a double and two RBIs and Chance Sonnenberg added three singles and two RBIs for the Black Knights (12-7, 5-3).

PANDORA — Earned run averages took a beating on Wednesday when Pandora-Gilboa beat Vanlue 17-7 in a Blanchard Valley Conference matchup that included four home runs among the combined 26 hits by both teams.

Reed Hovest, who fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, and Jacob Basinger both homered and drove in three runs for P-G (9-10, 4-4 BVC). Dustin Rieman (3-1B) and Alex Osborn (1B, 2B) knocked in three runs as well.

Jason Summers homered twice, had three hits overall and drove in four runs for Vanlue (3-13, 2-7 BVC).

ARLINGTON — Travis Downing and Trevor Downing combined for three singles, a triple and two RBIs and Kenton upset Arlington 14-1 in six innings in a nonconference baseball game on Wednesday.

Kenton (9-13) scored all of its’ runs on just eight hits. Arlington (14-5) had nine errors.

John Solt singled twice and Justin Rose doubled and drove in a run for the Red Devils (14-5).

MCGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley’s Austin Howard had five hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while pitching a complete game on the mound to lead the Rams past Hardin Northern 13-9 in nonconference baseball action on Wednesday.

Kyle Lamb doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs for Hardin Northern (0-16).

Braden Rostorfer had a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Rams.
