Prep softball: New Riegel keeps on rolling

NEW RIEGEL — State-ranked New Riegel jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings Monday and held on for a 9-5 Midland Athletic League win against Tiffin Calvert.

Kara Scherger tallied three singles and stole three bases, Leah Bouillon singled three times and drove in two runs, Taylor Kirian hit a triple and had an RBI and Hailey Theis notched a single and drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Jackets (19-4, 6-1 MAL).

Kate Brickner finished with a single and an RBI, Taylor Ritzler singled twice and Gabby Bennett tripled for Calvert (7-9, 1-6).

GALION — Justeen Searfoss belted two home runs and added a single as Upper Sandusky plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to post an 8-7 come-from-behind win against Galion on Monday in North Central Conference action.

Maranda Stansberry tripled and singled, Jaya Smalley tallied a double and a single, while Kalene Johnson and Kyla Cusac each notched a pair of singles for the Rams (15-6, 11-3 NCC).

Calli Bauer homered and singled and Jaime Ehrman recorded two singles for Galion (5-15, 4-8).

FOSTORIA — Three Elmwood players had three RBIs Monday as the Royals pummeled Fostoria 14-0 in a Northern Buckeye Conference softball game.

Rebecca Harvey was a single away from hitting for the cycle, Kristi Reiser also smacked a home run and Linday George had a double as each player knocked in three runs.

Miranda Benschoter hurled a one-hit shutout for the Royals (16-4, 9-1 NBC).

Fostoria fell to 5-15, 0-9 NBC.

ATTICA — Seneca East scored three runs in the third inning, added three more in the sixth and held off a late rally from Fostoria St. Wendelin in a 6-4 Midland Athletic League victory on Monday.

Holly Bordner homered, Hannah Martin hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while Mykayla Ruffing and Paige Reichert each singled and had two RBIs for the Tigers (13-10, 5-4 MAL).

Meghan Reiter doubled twice, singled and drove in a run, while Krystal Krout, Edy Mowrey and Courtney Babb recorded a single and an RBI apiece for the Mohawks (10-11, 4-5).
