Prep softball: Kitchen slugs walk-off homer

OTTAWA — Megan Kitchen’s walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning sent Ottawa-Glandorf to the district semifinals as the Titans escaped with a 3-1 win over Lima Central Catholic in a Division-IV sectional softball final on Friday.
Kitchen (14-3) pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out four, for the Titans (17-4), which will play on Wednesday at Bath High School.
Meredith Shepherd hit a solo home run for the Thunderbirds.

MILLER CITY — Makayla Rein crushed two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in eight runs as North Baltimore demolished Miller City 16-3 in six innings in a Division-IV sectional softball final on Friday.
Hanna Brian ripped four singles, Jasmine Bretz and Bailey Boyer each singled twice and doubled, and Haleigh Fleck drove in four runs for North Baltimore (9-12), which will play Van Buren in a district semifinal on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Elida.

VAN BUREN — Van Buren’s Nichole Miller went the distance fanning nine Ayersville batters as the Black Knights beat the Pilots 6-2 in a Division IV sectional softball final.
Van Buren (13-12) advances to play either Miller City or North Baltimore at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the district semifinals at Elida.
Paige Sudlow had a pair of singles with an RBI and Samantha Hagans added a double with two RBIs to lead the Black Knights.

MARION — Findlay High School scratched a run across in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Marion Harding 4-3 in a Division I sectional softball final.
With the win, the Trojans (8-19) advance to play the winner of today’s game between Oregon Clay and Toledo Waite in the district semifinals at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Fostoria.
Bree Snapp went the distance to get the win for the Trojans as she improved her record to 4-0. Libby Crow led Findlay at the plate with a pair of singles and two RBIs.

TIFFIN — Nicole Bickley fired a six-hit shutout to lead Tiffin Calvert to a 4-0 win over Fostoria St. Wendelin in a Division IV sectional softball final at Rombach Field.
Bickley walked one and fanned four batters to help the Senecas (8-9) advance to Tuesday’s 5 p.m. district final against the winner of today’s game between Old Fort and Fremont St. Joseph.
Allie Rutter doubled and singled and Sammie Digby added a pair of singles for St. Wendelin (10-12).

CONTINENTAL — Emma Recker pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout while McKenna Scott and Emily Logan each ripped three hits and drove in three runs to lead Continental past Pandora-Gilboa 9-0 in a Division-IV sectional softball final on Friday.
Scott (triple, double and single) just missed hitting for the cycle, while Logan singled twice and doubled.
Continental (7-9) will play Patrick Henry on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Elida, while Pandora-Gilboa fell to 3-12.

PEMBERVILLE — Eastwood only managed two hits off Fostoria’s Erica Moore but the Eagles were still able to knock off the Redmen 4-1 in a Division II sectional final.
Eastwood (21-1) will take on either Bowling Green or Maumee Tuesday in a district semifinal at Genoa.
Samantha Shirling recorded 11 strikeouts with no walks for the Eagles in a complete game effort.
Erica Moore took the loss after giving up one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts in three innings. Alex Hersch drove in Fostoria’s only run with a single in the fourth inning that scored Alexus Smith from second base.
Rolf hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning that scored Mackenzie Albright, upping Eastwood’s lead to 4-1.

Britnee Johnson picked up the win for the Red Devils (16-5), allowing an earned run on nine hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.
Sami Fruchey and Lauren Parkins combined for five hits, including a double, for Bluffton (11-5).

Janessa Taylor had three hits, including a double, for Riverdale (17-9, 8-6 NCC), and Aricka Hill tripled, singled and drove in three runs as the Falcons collected 13 hits.

KANSAS — Aspen Ray tripled, singled and drove in two runs as Lakota used a seven-run third inning to run rule Hopewell-Loudon 10-0 in five innings in a Division-IV sectional softball final on Friday.
Morgan Gangwer pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits to get the win for Lakota (16-7), which will play Sandusky St. Mary on Tuesday at Fremont Ross High School in a district semifinal.
Kassie Welly hit two singles to lead Hopewell-Loudon (3-18).

LEIPSIC — Kylee Hooker’s two-run double was part of a five-run seventh inning as Hardin Northern stayed in the Blanchard Valley Conference title hunt with a 7-3 win over Leipsic on Friday.
The Polar Bears (12-5, 7-1 BVC) play Arcadia, which is also 7-1 in the BVC, on Monday for at least a share of the BVC crown. Arlington also has one loss in the league.
Addy Bame struck out 12 batters in seven innings to get the win, and doubled and drove in a run at the plate.
Haley Gerten doubled and drove in all three runs for Leipsic (4-16, 1-7 BVC).
