Sectional Tennis: Findlay’s Teatsorth rolls to singles championship

Findlay High School swept the top three singles spots to highlight a big day for the Trojans’ boys tennis team at Saturday’s Division I sectional tournament at the Findlay YMCA East Branch.

All three singles players and both doubles teams for Findlay qualified for the Division I district tournament at Bowling Green State University.
Reid Teatsorth earned the sectional singles crown for the Trojans as he whipped Wapakoneta’s Drew Wayman, 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals before topping teammate Max MacDonald, 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
Max MacDonald reached the title match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over teammate Jake Elbin in the semifinals.
Elbin, meanwhile bounced back from his loss to stop Wayman 7-6, 6-3 to claim third place.
Findlay’s Brent Gorman and Ian Laird reached the doubles championship match by whipping Bowling Green’s Jacob Leader and Alex Messenger, 6-1, 6-2.
They dropped a 6-4, 7-6 decision to Bowling Green’s Austin Ezzone and Austin Ray in the finals.
The Trojans’ Hyun Chul Lee and Logan Sullivan lost to Ezzone and Ray 6-4, 6-4 in the semis but defeated Leader and Messinger in the third-place match.
Ottawa-Glandorf’s Alex Schroeder qualified for districts with a second-place finish in singles play at the Division II sectional at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Schroeder topped Van Wert’s Lane Mansfield 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals before falling to Pierre-Jean Desprat, 6-1, 7-6 in the final.
The Division II district tournament preliminary matches will be played at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts on Wednesday while the Division I prelims will be Thursday.
Semifinals and finals matches in both divisions are set for Saturday at BGSU.
