Prep baseball, softball: VB takes 2 from Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON — Van Buren improved to 15-8 with a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Port Clinton on Saturday.
Justin Phillips drove in three runs with a double and Chance Sonnenberg added a single and a pair of RBIs for the Black Knights in a 9-3 win in the opener.
Ross Adolph homered, doubled and drove in four runs in a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

FREMONT — Hopewell-Loudon built an 8-3 lead and hung on for an 8-7 Midland Athletic League baseball win over Fremont St. Joseph on Saturday.
Jordan Stewart doubled and singled, driving in a run, and teammate Nick Scaife added a pair of singles with an RBI to help Hopewell-Loudon improve to 16-9 overall and 7-2 in the MAL.
Marcus Kerr tripled and doubled driving in a run for the Crimson Streaks (5-16, 3-6).

SYCAMORE — Zach Stewart was 4 for 5 with three singles, a double and an RBI for North Baltimore as the Tigers knocked off Mohawk 10-5 in a Midland Athletic League baseball game Saturday.
Brock Boyer allowed five runs on seven hits over seven innings to get the win. Levi Newcomer had two singles and two RBIs and Tyler Trumbull doubled for the Tigers (10-14 overall, 5-3 MAL).

SYCAMORE — Mohawk’s Julie Adelsperger allowed just one one hit and Kasey Adelsperger had just one hit, but one’s pitching and the other’s hitting highlighted the Warriors’ title-clinching 10-0 Midland Athletic League softball win over North Baltimore on Saturday.
While Julie Adelsperger’s pitching kept North Baltimore from threatening, Kasey Adelsperger’s two-run home run was one several extra base hits. Cambria Kohlenberg drove in three runs with a double and a triple. and Allison Price had two doubles and drove in a run. MacKenzie Sowers had two RBI singles as the Warriors, 19-4 overall, remained undefeated in league play (9-0) and clinched at least a share of MAL championship.
Mohawk can win the title outright by beating Hopewell-Loudon on Thursdsay. The Warriors will face either New London or Margaretta in Wednesday’s 5 p.m. Division III district semifinal at Clyde High School.

OTTOVILLE — Continental’s Alex Quigley banged out four hits as the Pirates rolled to a 16-2 Putnam County League softball win over Ottoville on Saturday.
Quigley had three singles and a double to lead Continental’s 18-hit attack. Kiana Warnement and Sloane Zachrich added two singles and double and Emma Recker and Cailah Rickard both had two singles.
