SYLVANIA — Three wins in earlier matches had already earned Sylvania Southview a win over Findlay on Monday in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team tournament.
Findlay’s Max MacDonald wasn’t going away easily, though, rallying from a second-set loss to outlast Southview’s Michael Burchfield 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3 in a marathon three-hour No. 2 singles match. Reid Teatsorth earned Findlay’s other decision , beating M.J. Haider 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Sylvania Southview, which edged Findlay 3-2 in an early-season contest, held serve in Monday’s team tournament matchup as well.
Nathan Podolsky, Southview’s No. 3 singles player, beat Jake Elbin 6-4, 6-2 and the Cougars (17-1) swept both doubles matches. Jason Biglar and Matthew Rothchild beat Findlay’s Ian Laird and Brent Gorman 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Yuran Chen and Shahean Goel (No. 2) posted an almost identical 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hyunchul Lee and Logan Sullivan.
Despite the team tournament loss, all of Findlay’s players will be in action on Thursday when the Trojans compete in the Division I district meet at Bowling Green State University.
