Prep tennis: Teatsorth is a win away from state berth

BOWLING GREEN — Findlay High School junior Reid Teatsorth is a win away from a trip to the state tennis tournament after winning his first two matches at the Division I boys district tennis tournament at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts.
The top two singles players and doubles teams qualify for next week’s OHSAA state championships in Columbus.
Teatsorth had little trouble in his opener as he dispatched Tiffin Columbian freshman Ben Klepper 6-0, 6-0 in his opening-round singles match. He outlasted Toledo St. Francis freshman Tyler Gargas 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in his second match to reach Saturday’s 9:30 a.m. semifinal.
He’ll play Perrysburg senior Troy Weider in the semis at BGSU for a trip to Columbus on Saturday.
Max MacDonald was the only other Findlay player to pick up a district win.
He topped Ashland’s Tim Sprunger 6-0, 6-1 in his opener before falling to Toledo St. John’s Adam Zychowicz 6-0, 6-1 in singles quarterfinal action.
Teammate Jake Elbin dropped an opening-round 6-3, 6-1 decision to Ashland’s Caleb Sinchok.
In doubles action, the Trojans’ Brent Gorman and Ian Laird fell to Sylvania Northview’s CJ Horvath and Noah Turner, 6-3, 6-2 while Hyan Chul Lee and Logan Sullivan lost to Toledo St. John’s Jonah Carter and Rajeev Laungani 6-0, 6-0.
