District baseball: Seneca East’s McWilliams shuts down New Riegel

NORTH ROBINSON — Mason McWilliams allowed one run on just two hits in seven innings pitched as Seneca East jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead and knocked off New Riegel 5-1 in a Division IV district final baseball game on Friday.
Ethan Caudill doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Seneca East, which will play the Cuyahoga Heights/Willoughby Cornerstone Christian winner in the regional semifinals on Friday.
Jake Dryfuse and Alex Theis each singled for New Riegel (14-11). Austin Mathias (3-2) picked up the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings pitched.

TONTOGANY — Elmwood scored all six of its run in the final three innings and manged to hold off a late Otsego rally for a 6-4 Northern Buckeye Conference victory Friday.
Jarrett Childress hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs, Nick Gillett added a single and two RBIs, while Tayte Lentze and Trevor Solether each notched a double for the Royals (13-13, 6-6 NBC). Nolan Kerr (4-3) picked up the win on the mound.
Jon Thomas singled three times to lead Otsego (9-18, 6-7).
