Prep baseball: St. John’s tops Trojans in TRAC tourney semis

TOLEDO — Toledo St. John’s scored twice in the bottom of the first, then blew the game open with big rallies in the fourth and fifth innings in rolling to a 9-1 win over Findlay on Monday in the semifinals of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference baseball tournament at Mercy Field.
Collin Korte pitch five shutout innings and T.J. Lake doubled, tripled and drove in two runs for St. John’s. The Titans will face Toledo St. Francis at 7 p.m. today for the TRAC tournament championship.
Chandler Stillings (4-3) took the loss for Findlay. Payton Evans had two of the eight singles collected by the Trojans (14-12), who take on Toledo Central Catholic in today’s 4:30 p.m. consolation matchup.
Findlay did win the TRAC junior varsity baseball tournament, rallying from a 3-0 deficit and beating Oregon Clay 4-3 on Monday thanks to a four-run fourth inning.
Trevor Volpp’s RBI triple, Rick Coleman’s RBI single, a bases-loaded walk by Luke Cosiano, and Cole Weickert’s grounder put Findlay ahead and Max Rinebolt, pitching in relief of Weickert, got the save for the Trojans (14-13-1).

NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel took an 8-2 lead after a seven-run second inning, but North Baltimore came back with 10 runs in the top of the third and held on to knock off the Blue Jackets 12-10 in a Midland Athletic League baseball game on Saturday.
Zach Stewart doubled and drove in two runs for North Baltimore (13-14, 7-3 MAL), which only had six hits. Sean Watson picked up the win on the mound.
Jake Dryfuse had two doubles and three RBIs to lead New Riegel (14-12, 5-5 MAL). Aaron Acree singled twice and drove in two runs.
