TOLEDO — Grant Akin parlayed two walks into two runs and Findlay rode a strong pitching effort from Connor Curlis to a 2-1 win over Toledo Central Catholic on Tuesday in the consolation game of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
Akin walked leading off the game, took second on Nolan Rodman’s grounder and scored on Ryan Golden’s RBI single. Akin walked again in the third, was sacrificed to second by Austin Cameron, took third on Golden’s second hit of the game, and scored on Payton Evans’ base hit.
Central Catholic trimmed the deficit to one in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cam Weber tripled and scored on a ground out by Colin Caucher. But Curlis, who allowed just four hits, struck out 10 and was backed by errorless defense, shut the Irish down the rest of the way.
The win capped a 15-12 season for Findlay.
