Local golf: Foursome romps at Julie Cole Classic

The team of Jon Ballinger, Nate Heintzelman, Trevor Ballinger and Travis Ballinger carded a 116 total on Monday to claim the first flight title in the 25th annual Julie Cole Charity Golf Classic at the Findlay Country Club.

The winning total was 13 strokes ahead of the 129 of first flight runners-up Tim Griffith, Don Templin, Garry Peiffer and Jay Heintschel, and 21 shots ahead of any other team.

A single stroke separated first and second place in the second flight, and scorecard playoffs broke the tie between the third and fourth flight winners.

In the second flight, Mike Needler, Sr., and David, Eric and Julie Anderson posted a 137 and a one-stroke victory over the foursome of Jason Hanna, John Garcia, Scott Isaacs and Dewayne Wendt.

The top two third flight teams had scores of 143, but a scorecard playoff gave Jim Givens, Marty Terry, Tony Wenzinger and Bryan Golding the win over Paul Koch, David Hudson, Justin Harris and Taylor Knight.

It also took a scorecard playoff to decide the fourth flight after the winning team of Jeff Bryant, Jim Bucher, Mike Fritz and Kari Lin Schell and runner-ups Jim Giordano, Pat Milostan, Rob Johnson and Glenn Rader both finished with 149s.

LPGA pro Stacy Lewis, who moved into the top spot in the world rankings with Sunday’s victory in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, was the guest professional for the annual event, which over the years has generated around $2.2 million for local and area charities.
