Prep Sports: Gomer to be inducted into Officials Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS — Fifteen individuals will be honored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association Saturday night in Columbus as the organization will hold its annual Officials Hall of Fame Induction banquet.

The OHSAA’s 2013-14 Officials of the Year will also be honored at the event.

The OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame Committee has selected individuals for induction into the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame annually since 1989. While the OHSAA’s Circle of Champions recognizes individuals from various areas who had outstanding careers in high school athletics and have further contributed to interscholastic sports, the Officials Hall of Fame is the only Hall of Fame sponsored by the OHSAA.

Ottawa track and field official Sam Gomer will be among those inducted into the Hall of Fame Satruday. Other Northwest Ohio residents being inducted include Wapakoneta’s Steven Trout (basketball, softball, volleyball) and Elida’s David May (basketball, baseball, softball, football).

In addition Defiance’s Larry Saxton, a Fostoria High School graduate, has been named the OHSAA Official of the Year in the sport of wrestling.
