Legion baseball: Findlay Legion stays unbeaten with DH sweep at Prospect

PROSPECT — Findlay’s Legion baseball team kept its unbeaten record intact on Saturday, but the Post 3 squad needed a 14th-inning rally and some clutch relief pitching to nail down an 8-7 win over Prospect in a Buckeye American Legion League battle at Larry Barnett Field.

It was a similar formula but less dramatic in the second game of the BALL doubleheader, when Findlay, 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the league, used a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to beat Prospect 10-7.

Van Buren’s Ross Adolph had a triple and three singles in the first game. It was his third four-hit game in the past week, and none of them were bigger than his two-run single in the top of the 14th inning after Chris Hampton had walked and Chandler Stillings reached on an error.

Prospect, which tied the game 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, and 6-6 after both teams had two-run rallies in the 12th, trimmed the deficit to 8-7 in the bottom of the 14th. Garret Sendelbach struck out the final batter, though, to lock down the win and earn the save.

Jared Neiling (3-1B) and Nick Bowden (2B, 2-1B) had three hits each and Sendelbach had a pair of RBI singles. Bowden started and allowed no earned runs over the first eight innings. Stillings got the win with five innings of relief before Sendelbach nailed down the save.

Jake Farley had five base hits and Curt Wyckoff had three doubles and a single for Prospect.

Bowden’s two-run seventh-inning double highlighted Findlay’s late rally in the second game.

Bowden also had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, while Neiling (2-1B) and Grant Akin (3-1B) drove in two runs each. Desmond Lino, in relief, got his first win of the season.

Wyckoff and Scott Foster had two hits each for Prospect.

Findlay is at Pemberville on Tuesday and at Bucyrus for a BALL contest on Wednesday. Post 3 then heads south on Friday for the Hillsboro Wooden Bat tournament this weekend.
