ARCADIA — The Arcadia school board Wednesday hired a new athletic director, who also will become the district’s boys’ basketball coach.
C.J. Holman was offered a pair of supplemental contracts to fill both positions.
Holman, a 2008 Arcadia High School alum, will replace outgoing athletic director Dave Uitto and former boys basketball coach Cara Noel.
“It means a lot,” Holman said of the opportunities. “I put a lot of hard work in when I was in school. It’s great to come back now, older, and be able to give the same work ethic and give back to the kids that are there now. I hope I can give them the same opportunities that I had for success when I was in school.”
Holman spent last season as an assistant boys basketball coach under Noel after earning his undergraduate degree in physical education at Ohio State.
He said he is looking forward to helping bring the same level of success to the boys athletic programs as the girls have experienced in recent years.
“The girls programs have had a lot more consistency, I feel, since I’ve been around the school and that’s brought a lot more discipline from the girls that are in athletics,” he said. “I want to bring some of that consistency and that respect of the game and responsibility to the game back to the boys programs.”
In other supplemental contract matters, Dereck Uitto was renewed as head boys baseball coach, with Dave Uitto serving as assistant baseball coach. Travis Rettig was selected as track coach.
