Findlay’s American Legion baseball team will be looking to keep an excellent season going when the Post 3 squad begins District 1 tournament play today with a 7 p.m. game against Whitehouse Post 384 at the Findlay High School Field.
Winning would be beneficial for Findlay, which is 24-5 and riding a four-game winning streak, considering the winners bracket final on July 19 and District 1 championship game on July 20 are all scheduled to be held at the FHS Field.
District 1, though, has traditionally been one of the toughest Legion tournaments to survive. The Napoleon River Bandits have been the dominant team, winning 11 of the last 15 District 1 titles and going on to win four state championships as well.
Whitehouse, Findlay’s first-round opponent which features several players who were on Toledo St. John’s Three Rivers Athletic Conference championship team, won the 2012 District 1 title and has national tournament experience (2003) on its resume as well.
Rounding out the District 1 tournament lineup are 2008 champion Toledo, as well as Ottawa, Pemberville, Port Clinton and Maumee.
