Legion baseball: Findlay Legion rallies past Whitehouse

Ross Adolph had three hits, including a two-run double to highlight a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Chandler Stillings nailed down the win with two shutout innings of relief as Findlay’s Post 3 team edged Whitehouse 11-9 on Wednesday in a first-round game of the American Legion District 1 baseball tournament.

Findlay improved to 25-5 with its fifth straight win and will face Toledo today at 7 p.m. in a winners bracket semifinal game at the Findlay High School Field. Lower bracket winners Napoleon and Port Clinton square off 7 p.m today at Mercy Field in Toledo, with the winners bracket final set for Friday at Findlay High.

Whitehouse (27-15) scored at least one run in every inning but the third in building a 9-5 lead.

Chris Hampton and Garrett Sendelbach led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles, though, and both advanced on a balk. Isaac Sexton and Jameson Jacobs followed with RBI singles, Grant Akin walked and Adolph tied it with a two-run double. Adolph later scored on a ground out as Findlay went ahead to stay.

Adolph tripled and scored in the first inning, singled, and doubled in the seventh. Sexton also had three hits, Hampton, Sendelbach and Jacobs had two each and Nolan Rodman had an RBI double. Mark Delas and Daniel Komisarek both had three hits for Whitehouse.

Nick Bowden went the first seven innings and got the win, his sixth in seven decisions. Stillings struck out four in earning the save.

Whitehouse banged out 16 hits and Findlay committed five errors. Bowden and Stilllings did not walk a batter, though.
