Legion baseball: Ottawa ousts Findlay from tourney

Ottawa scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning and the Fighting 63rd, beaten twice by Findlay during the regular season, avenged those setbacks with a 9-5 win over the Post 3 club on Friday in the Region 1 American Legion baseball tournament at the Findlay High School Field.
Ottawa, (13-11-1) stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament and will face Whitehouse today at 1 p.m. in a losers bracket semifinal matchup at Ottawa’s Memoral Park. Findlay Post 3 ended its 2014 season with a 25-7 record.
Ottawa, beaten 9-7 by Findlay in a June 11 matchup, and 6-5 in a rematch at Findlay on July 9, broke a scoreless tie with an unearned run in the fifth inning, then batted around and tacked on six more runs in the seventh.
Findlay answered Ottawa’s sixth-run rally with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, then trimmed the deficit to 7-5 with three runs in the eighth.
But Ottawa padded the cushion to 9-5 with two runs in the top of the ninth held on.
