Girls tennis: Fostoria sixth at Clyde’s Wilson Memorial tourney

CLYDE — Cierra Valenti finished fourth at No. 3 singles as Fostoria’s girls tennis team was last in the six-team Bob Wilson Memorial tournament Saturday at Clyde High School.
Valenti advanced on a first-round bye before losing 6-0, 6-0 to Fremont St. Joseph’s Kayla Sherman in the semifinals and 8-0 to Bellevue’s Bernadette Wolfe in the third-place match.
At No. 1 singles, Jessica Kaufman fell 6-0, 6-0 to Bellevue’s Julie Steinmetz in the first round and lost 8-1 to Tiffin Columbian’s Olivia Smith in the fifth-place match.
Fostoria’s No. 1 doubles team of Destinie Farris and Cristy Gao advanced on a first bye, lost 6-0, 6-0 to a Fremont St. Joseph duo in the semifinals and fell 8-0 in the third-place match.
Clyde won the tourney with 40 points. Tiffin Calvert and Fremont St. Joseph each had 30 points, with Calvert getting second place on a games-won tiebreaker.
