Findlay High roundup: Kovaleski scores three goals in win over Lexington

Findlay High School’s Amanda Kovaleski scored three goals as Trojans rolled to a 4-0 nonconference girls soccer win over Lexington at Elmer Graham Stadium Saturday night.

Kovaleski scored on assists from Alexis Gray and Becca Opp in the first half before getting her final tally on assists from Kylee Rudolph and Skyler Sensel in the second. Hannah Robertson scored Findlay’s other goal on an assist from Rudolph.

Goalkeepers Marissa Wintrow and Claire Johnson combined on the shutout, with Wintrow making four saves and Johnson one. Lily Keller had seven saves for the Minutemen (1-1), who were outshot by Findlay (1-0-1) 22-5.

Elizabeth Alexander led the Trojans defensively with three steals and six intercepts. Alexis Gray finished with four intercepts and one steal and Erica Tracy added two steals and one intercept.

Findlay is back in action on Wednesday in the team’s Three Rivers Athletic Conference opener against Toledo Central Catholic.

Volleyball falls at Huron

HURON — Findlay’s Lindsay George had 20 assists on 79 of 81 setting, but the Trojans took their first loss of the season 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 against Huron on Saturday.

George’s all-around performance also consisted of nine digs, three kills and 9 of 9 serving. Krista Wurm was 15 of 16 serving with three aces, 25 of 26 passing, and had a team-high 16 digs.

Patricia Barreto’s seven kills and two blocks led the Trojans (1-1), while Molly Doepker was 20 of 23 hitting with six digs and six kills.

Findlay will travel north to take on Toledo Central Catholic on Thursday in the team’s Three Rivers Athletic Conference opener.

Stahl wins at Celina

CELINA — Findlay’s Emily Stahl turned in a dominating performance Saturday en route to the individual championship at the Celina Rotary Invitational at the Wright State Lake Campus.

Stahl, a sophomore, completed the course in 20:55.84 to beat Celina Green’s Lauren McDonough (21:18.26) by more than 22 seconds. Stahl was also the only girl to post a sub-21-minute mark in the race.

New Haven topped Celina Green 43-71 for the team title. Findlay finished third with a 76 total.

Mia Johnson (10th, 23:03.14) also turned in a top-10 finish for the Trojans, who placed four runners in the top 25 and seven in the top 40.

Findlay junior Isaiah Gaines came in second in the boys race in a time of 17:18.60, a little more than eight seconds off the winning pace of New Haven’s Deric Laurent (17:10.40).

Celina narrowly edged New Haven 45-46 in the team competition and Findlay nipped Bryan 77-78 for third place.

Shoemaker shoots 76

CINCINNATI — Findlay High School’s boys golf team posted its highest score of the season, a 345 team total, and finished well back in the pack in the 18-team Moeller Invitational held at Walden Ponds Golf Club on Saturday.

Spencer Shoemaker fired a 76 to lead the Trojans and Sam Griffith posted an 81. Van Mallett and Tyler Parish added 94s for a Findlay lineup that was missing No. 2 man Trevor St. Jean for the weekend. Logan Sullivan (99) and Logan Bern (101) completed Findlay’s tournament lineup.
