Girls soccer: McCracken goal lifts Van Buren past Wauseon

VAN BUREN — Gabbi McCracken scored in the 64th minute and Marly McCartney made a save in the closing moments to preserve Van Buren’s 1-0 win against Wauseon in a nonconference match Tuesday.

The start of the game was delayed 45 minutes due to storms in the area and it took even longer before any action took place on the field.

McCracken’s goal came on a crossing shot from the keeper’s right, with Lisa Simmons and Kristen Conner being credited with assists.

McCartney made eight saves on eight attempts for the Black Knights (4-0), while Hannah Spadafore recorded nine saves for the Indians (1-2).

Emma Swisher knocked home a pair of goals as Liberty-Benton crushed Marion Harding 8-0 in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association match.

Monica Barger, Kennedy Briggs, Sophie Norden, McKenna Dire, Alexis Shoffstall and Leah Recker each added a goal, while Sydney Barton tallied an assist for the Eagles (1-1-2 overall, 1-0 NCOSA), the defending conference champs.

Addison Stoneburner recorded 19 saves for the Presidents (0-2, 0-2 NCOSA), who were outshot 27-0 in the contest.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Buckeye Valley’s Maddie Oberle scored a goal in each half to lead the Fighting Barons past Upper Sandusky 4-2 in nonconference play Tuesday.

Sok Som opened the scoring for Buckeye Valley (3-1) and Jillian Hon scored shortly before halftime to help Buckeye Valley build an early lead.

Both of Grace Miller’s goals came with the Rams (3-1) already down multiple scores.

Haley Cowan saved 10 of 12 shots for Buckeye Valley, while Makenna Searls stopped 17 of 21 attempts for Upper Sandusky.

CONTINENTAL — Both offenses were on display Tuesday at Continental.

Continental and Allen East combined for 55 shots as the Pirates won 5-3 in a nonleague girls soccer game.

Caitlin Geckle scored three times and Paige Lawhorn twice for Contintental (3-1), which outshot the Mustangs 31-24. Taylor Niese, McKenna Scott and Emma Recker had assists.

Savannah Silone scored twice for Allen East (0-2) and Jade Meyer added a goal.
