Findlay High roundup: Boys soccer team off to perfect start

ASHLAND — Findlay’s Alexander Majors scored two penalty kick goals to give the Trojans a 2-0 victory over Ashland in nonconference boys soccer action on Saturday.

The Trojans (4-0) outshot Ashland (1-1) 13-9. Defensively, Aaron Elchert stopped seven shots for Findlay, Mason Hill had four steals and seven intercepts and Majors added four steals and five intercepts of his own.

Findlay’s next game will be Tuesday at Toledo St. Francis.

Volleyball goes 1-2
ST. HENRY — Findlay High School’s volleyball team dropped a pair of three-game matches before stopping Kettering Fairmont in its finale at Saturday’s PT Services Tournament at St. Henry.

The Trojans dropped a 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 decision to Buckeye Central and a 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 match to St. Henry to open the tournament. They finished with a 25-9, 25-14 win over the Firebirds in their third match.

Kelsey Schroeder did a little bit of everything for the Trojans as she slammed 23 kills with 14 digs and six aces. Lindsay George dished out 65 assists on 189 of 191 setting with 17 digs and five aces.

Molly Doepker added 23 digs and 12 kills and Krista Wurm chipped in 34 digs and served for six aces for the Trojans (2-4), who complete a season-opening five match road swing Thursday with a Three Rivers Athletic Conference match at Fremont Ross. Findlay’s home opener will be Saturday in a tri-match with Bowling Green and Coldwater.

Short leads golfers

LIMA — Suzanne Short fired an 88 to lead Findlay High School’s girls golf team at Saturday’s Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.

Short shot a 44 on both the front and back nines to tie for 26th place individually. Jordan Whitman (48-43–91), Jackie Fontana (48-48–96) and Emma Harris (49-50–99) completed the scoring for the Trojans.

Toledo St. Ursula won the tournament with a 303. Findlay was ninth in the 10-team field with 374 strokes.
Gahanna Lincoln’s Emily Hughes was the medalist with a 70.

Girls soccer falls

SYLVANIA — Findlay High School’s varsity girls soccer team dropped its first match of the season on Saturday when the Trojans fell to Sylvania Northview 3-0 on the road.

FHS keeper Marissa Wintrow made six saves on nine Northview (3-1-0) shots. Findlay had seven total shots, four of them on goal.

Elizabeth Alexander led Findlay defensively with three steals and five intercepts. Halle McCleave had three steals and four intercepts and Sierra Perry a steal and three intercepts for the Trojans, who host Toledo St. Ursula on Wednesday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference matchup of 2-1-1 teams.
