College basketball: Vorhees is NCAA Division II National Player of the Week

SOUTH EUCLID — Elite honors continued to roll in for Columbus Grove graduate Will Vorhees, a 6-foot-8 junior at Notre Dame College who Wednesday was named the National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Vorhees nearly averaged a double-double in leading Notre Dame to three wins. The Falcons’ center scored 44 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 97-93 win over Glenville State, netted 30 points with 10 rebounds in a 79-65 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan, then capped the week with a 31-point, nine-rebound game in the Falcons’ 95-87 win over Concord.

Vorhees averaged 35 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in earning Mountain East Conference Player of Week honors and helping NDC improve to 11-2 overall and 5-2 in the Mountain East Conference. He is averaging 27.6 points and 11.6 rebounds overall.
