Findlay High Roundup: Trojans’ wrestling 5th at Wadsworth

WADSWORTH — A trio of Findlay High School wrestlers posted fifth-place finishes as the Trojans placed fifth in a power-packed field at Saturday’s Wadsworth Grizzly Invitational.

A pair of nationally-ranked schools led the team standings as host Wadsworth outscored Olentangy Liberty 438½-380 for the team title. Findlay checked in with 239 points.

Liam Morrison posted a 2-1 day to raise his record to 20-8 as he finished fifth at 120 pounds.

Seth Douglas went 3-1 to improve to 22-7 and placed fifth at 145 while Boston Dubocq was 4-1 and fifth at 132 pounds.

Zach Bryant (182), Loren Charles (195), Paul Singh (170) and Dewey Lee (285) were sixth and Joey Staschiak (138), Max Jolliff (138) and Aaron Kupferberg (220) added seventh-place showings.

FHS hockey earns 2 wins

Brandon Armstrong scored two goals on Saturday and two on Sunday when Findlay High’s hockey team capped a three-game weekend with a 5-1 victory over Springboro.

Cam Armstrong, C.J. Frost and Keaton Rider also found the back of the net on Sunday. Storm Woodward earned the win in goal as Findlay upped its overall record to 17-9-2.

Brandon and Cam Armstrong had two goals each and Rider had the other in Saturday’s 5-3 Northwest Hockey Conference win over Toledo St. John’s. Woodward was in goal for that league game as well for the Trojans, 2-4 in NHC contests.

Gymnastics places third at Worthington

WORTHINGTON — After battling the flu bug most of the week, Findlay High’s gymnastics team battled some of the top programs in central Ohio and came away with a third-place finish in the Wildcat Invitational held at Worthington Kilbourne High School on Saturday.

Senior Cassidy Pruitt was third on vault (9.225), seventh on floor (8.85), ninth on bars (7.9) and fourth in the all-around standings (34.275). Macie Hunt added a tenth-place finish on floor (8.65) in helping Findlay to a season-high 127.3 team total. Tri-Valley (133.05) won the 18-team meet. Worthington Kilbourne (127.625) was second.

McComb’s Shelby Steinbrook was second on floor (9.1), fourth on beam (8.7) and seventh all-around (33.65) as the Panthers’ one-girl team was 15th in the standings. Liberty-Benton’s one-girl team of Sydnee Starr was 18th (28.325).
