Brendan Phillips came on to pinch run, and he scored on Derrick Herd’s third hit of the day as UF won the opener 4-3. The Oilers outhit Ashland 4-2 in the second contest, but were shut out 2-0.
Pete Burkett and Peter Yorgen also had RBI singles in Sunday’s opener. Austin Rodesky allowed just four hits and struck eight in seven strong innings on the mound. A.J. Cecil (4-0) got the win in relief.
Ashland’s Greg Ludwig tied the game with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning. Upper Sandusky graduate Carson Mittermaier had a double for the Eagles.
In Sunday’s second game, Ashland (7-10, 1-1 GLIAC) scored two runs in the second inning on a bases-loaded walk and a hit batsman, and starter Pat Carlozzi and reliever Ryan Curtis pitched seven shutout innings.
