Locally: UF players net all-region honors

University of Findlay juniors Martyce Kimbrough and Taren Sullivan have both been named to the all-Midwest Region teams selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and released on Monday.

Kimbrough, a 6-foot-1 guard out of Lima Central Catholic, was a first-team all-Region pick.

Sullivan, a 6-6 forward out of Lima Bath High School, earned second-team honors.

Kimbrough led the Oilers in scoring with a 19.3 points-per-game average. He canned a school record 114-of-282 (40.4 percent) 3-point attempts and his 617 points scored is the eighth-best single-season total in UF history.

Sullivan averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot a team-high 55.2 percent (233-of-422) from the floor and made a team-best 44.8 percent (64-of-143) of his three point attempts.

Weese, Ochsenhirt named OAC players of the week

ADA — Ohio Northern University student/athletes Max Weese and Ashley Ochsenhirt have been named the Ohio Athletic Conference players of the week in their respective sports.

Weese was named the OAC Offensive Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse after scoring a school-record eight goals in a 22-4 win over Houghton.

Ochsenhirt was selected the OAC women’s tennis player of the week. Ochsenhirt won matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in ONU’s 9-0 victory over Wittenberg.

Teatsorth wins pair of tennis games

Findlay High School alum and University of Toledo tennis player Reid Teatsorth recently improved his singles record to 8-7 and doubles record to 5-1 after he recorded key wins versus Boise State and Nebraska. Teatsorth defeated the Broncos’ Greg Wischer 7-5, 6-2 and defeated the Cornhuskers’ Chris Dean 6-1 6-1 during a swing through the western U.S.

The Rockets’ record is 9-8 as they prepare for MAC competition next weekend versus Ball State and Western Michigan.

Makarancy takes Elks Hoop Shoot title

ANGOLA, Ind. — Findlay’s Brock Makrancy was the boys 12-13-year old champion at the fourth round of the Elks Hoop Shoot competition in Angola, Indiana on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Findlay Elks Lodge, Makrancy made 23 of 25 free throws to win the contest.

He’ll advance to the Elks Hoop Shoot national finals in Chicago on April 15.
