DEFIANCE — Max Rinebolt belted his second grand slam of the season and drove in five runs overall to power Findlay to a 9-5 win over Pemberville on Friday in a District 1 American Legion baseball tournament game at Defiance.
Pemberville, which swept Findlay in a doubleheader last Sunday, used a five-run rally in the bottom of the third inning to go up 5-2. Rinebolt’s grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth, though, and Findlay led the rest of the way.
Rinebolt added two doubles to his grand slam. Phillip Buckingham went 5-for-6 with four singles, a double, two runs-batted-in and three runs scored. Kyle Reinbolt (1B, 2B) and Austin Harper (2-1B) added two hits each. Cole Noftz had three base hits and Cody Orr two for Pemberville.
Trevor Solether got the win, allowing five runs, striking out six and walking three in 62/3 innings. Donavan Magill retired all six batters he faced but, because of the pitch count, was replaced by Dakota Bricker in the ninth. Bricker threw one pitch, a line-out to second, to end it.
Findlay, 1-1 in the tournament and 27-9 overall, is scheduled to face the Whitehouse Legion at noon today at Ottawa’s Memorial Park. Napoleon and Toledo will square off in the winners bracket final a 1 p.m. today at Defiance. The loser of that game will face the Findlay/Whitehouse winner in the losers bracket final.
