Prep soccer: Van Buren boys rock Tornadoes

VAN BUREN — Hunter Stone scored three goals and added an assist Thursday as Van Buren thumped Tiffin Columbian 9-2 in a nonconference boys soccer game.
Thomas Piccirillo, Brady Losiewicz, Nick McCracken, James Koehler, Jacob Dutton and Nate Potteiger also scored for Van Buren (4-1). The Black Knights outshot the Tornadoes (0-3) 27-3.
Gavyn Coppus scored both goals for Tiffin Columbian.

PAULDING — Tristan Smucker notched a hat trick, Jesse Montel added two goals and Jordan Siferd also scored as Bluffton’s boys soccer team rolled past Paulding 6-0 in a Northwest Conference match Thursday.
The Pirates (1-1-1, 1-0 NWC) had 14 shots on goal.
Paulding fell to 0-4, 0-1 NWC.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Liberty-Benton’s Austin Patrick scored a first-half goal, but Riverdale’s Coby Miller scored one of his own in the second half as the Eagles and Falcons played to a 1-1 tie in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association match.
L-B (2-1-1, 0-0-1 NCOSA) had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Chris Dole stopped two shots in goal for the Eagles.
Ethan Shane had seven saves for the Falcons (1-1-1, 0-0-1 NCOSA).

GLANDORF — Evan Vogel scored twice and Howie Spencer had a goal as St. Marys Memorial defeated Ottawa-Glandorf 3-0 in a Western Buckeye League game.
Ethan Alt had four saves for O-G (1-1, 0-1 WBL). St. Marys Memorial improved to 2-0, 1-0 WBL.

KALIDA — Evan Roebke scored the game’s only goal with 26 seconds left to play as Kalida beat Fort Jennings 1-0 on Thursday in the Putnam County League opener for both teams.
Trent Guisinger took a rebound off a missed shot for Kalida (3-1-1, 1-0 PCL) and found Roebke who fired the ball through a crowd for the game-winner. Fort Jennings goalkeeper Cole Horstman, who managed 14 saves on the night, got his hands on the hard-hit ball, but was unable to stop it.
Kalida managed 15 shots on goal to just two for Fort Jennings (0-4, 0-1).

UPPER SANDUSKY — Marion Pleasant’s Logan Thompson recorded a hat trick on Thursday as the Spartans topped Upper Sandusky 3-0 in a nonleague match.
Marion Pleasant (4-0) had a 13-4 shots-on-goal advantage, with Evan Roark pitching the shutout in goal.
Anson Hill stopped 10 shots for Upper Sandusky (0-5-1).

ADA — Chris Reyes had three goals and two assists, and Logan Williams added thee goals and one assist as Ada romped past Old Fort 11-1 in a nonconference game.
Nate Allen and Jacob Poling each scored two goals for Ada (3-1), and Miguel Jordan also scored. Noah Pinkney had two assists and Ace Gamble had five saves.
David Kupka scored for Old Fort (0-3).

MONCLOVA — Andrew Ridenour scored the only goal of the match for Heritage Christian as the Minutemen dropped a 6-1 nonconference decision to Monclova Christian.

It was all defense — almost — Thursday as Liberty-Benton and Lima Shawnee battled to a 1-1 tie in nonconference girls soccer action.
Rachel Russ staked Lima Shawnee (2-1-1) to a 1-0 lead with 33 minutes to play in the first half when she found the net off an assist from Bella Fusillo. Maya Rickle tied it for Liberty-Benton (3-0-1) on an unassisted goal 6 minutes later.
Liberty-Benton had 15 shots on goal to just six for Shawnee, but Indians goalkeeper Grace Connor notched 14 saves to keep Shawnee in the game.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Taylor Krzyzak scored with just more than eight minutes left in the first half — Tiffin Columbian’s only shot-on-goal the entire game — as the Tornadoes defeated Upper Sandusky 1-0 Thursday in a nonconference girls match.
Upper Sandusky (1-2-1) peppered the Columbian (4-1) goal with 18 shots but couldn’t break through against Maddy Brisendine, who made 18 saves.
