Pucker up pigskin prognosticators, we’re all tied again.
For the second straight week our fearless forecasters posted identical records in the weekly Pigskin Picks predictions. Sports editor Jamie Baker was on the money when he predicted Upper Sandusky’s scoreboard rattling 54-35 win over Mount Gilead. But he missed — and fellow prognostocator Dave Hanneman did not — on Pandora-Gilboa’s 20-6 win over Tiffin Calvert.
Neither of our gridiron gurus matched their 17-3 first-week accuracy. But neither pulled ahead or fell behind either. Both finished with mediocre 15-5 records, leaving the two-time defending Pigskin Picks champ and the grizzled veteran with identical 32-8 overall records heading into Week 3.
You’d think something has to give one way or the other. But it might not happen this week since — again — our fearless forecasters have disagreed on, you guessed it, two games. Baker is going with Colonel Crawford and Bluffton to chalk up wins this week; Hanneman favors Mohawk and Ayersville, respectively, in those matchups.
LAST WEEK: 15-5; OVERALL: 32-8
FINDLAY over Toledo Start — Almost a must-win situation for the Trojans, who have played well at times … just not all the time.
Arcadia over CORY-RAWSON — Redskins have been racking up some points; Hornets have just one TD in two games.
PANDORA-GILBOA over Arlington — Arlington has won six straight and nine of the last 10 games with P-G. Chance for the Rockets to end the trend.
McCOMB over Hopewell-Loudon — Panthers look to get back on the winning track after a close loss to a 2-0 Wayne Trace team.
Liberty-Benton over LEIPSIC — I’m betting the Eagles are itching to avenge last year’s 35-28 loss to the Vikings in this huge BVC opener.
RIVERDALE over North Baltimore — North Baltimore put the brakes on Riverdale’s fast start a year ago. I’m sensing payback.
Van Buren over VANLUE — Knights roll on the road before hosting L-B next week.
Mohawk over COLONEL CRAWFORD — Warriors are 2-0 but against two 0-2 opponents. Colonel Crawford will be no easy mark, especially at home.
CAREY over Upper Sandusky — Carey won last year’s matchup 20-19 when Upper Sandusky could not convert a two-point conversion pass in the final minutes. Expect another barn burner between these Wyandot County rivals.
OTTAWA-GLANDORF over Lima Bath — Titans desperate for a win, and I think the defense will have to earn it for them.
AYERSVILLE over Bluffton — Tough call. Ayersville graduated a ton of talent from a 12-1 playoff team, including three all-Ohio players. But the Pilots are 2-0, so there must be some sort of carry over.
FOSTORIA over Cardinal Stritch — Redmen are averaging 42.0 points a game; Stritch is allowing 41.5. I doubt a half a point either way will matter in this one.
PATRICK HENRY over Columbus Grove –After picking against the Patriots the past two weeks, I wonder if Bill Inselmann will ever speak to me again. Hoping to mend some fences here.
Danbury over HARDIN NORTHERN — Both schools facing a numbers shortage, but of the 24 players on Danbury’s roster, 13 were starters on last year’s 7-4 playoff team.
ADA over Lima Central Catholic — Ada’s only home game the first half of the season. I’m guessing they’ll want to make it count, especially since it’s LCC.
LAKOTA over Ridgemont –Both teams are 0-2, but Lakota has better point differentials against tougher opponents.
ELMWOOD over Toledo Christian — Great opportunity for Royals — and new head coach Greg Bishop — to put that first W in the books.
LAST WEEK: 15-5; OVERALL: 32-8
FINDLAY over Toledo Start — Findlay seeking a better start and, more importantly, a much better finish this week. It only gets tougher once TRAC play begins.
Arcadia over CORY-RAWSON — Simple mathematics. Arcadia has put 86 points on the board so far this season. Cory-Rawson has scored seven.
PANDORA-GILBOA over Arlington — Big win for the Rockets over Calvert last week. Let’s see if they can follow it up with another.
McCOMB over Hopewell-Loudon — Interesting matchup. I can’t see McComb losing two in a row.
Liberty-Benton over LEIPSIC — Classic matchup: L-B offense vs. Leipsic defense. In this day and age offense seems to reign.
RIVERDALE over North Baltimore — Oldtimers may disagree, but the best thing the BVC did was add Riverdale and NB. This should be a dandy.
Van Buren over VANLUE — I was told to keep picking against the Black Knights. Sorry guys.
COLONEL CRAWFORD over Mohawk — Taking the Eagles at home. The N10 may be a wild ride this season.
CAREY over Upper Sandusky — Two sides have been getting after it on social media this week. Be wary Carey.
OTTAWA-GLANDORF over Lima Bath — Better effort by the Titans in their last outing. This is the week they get off the schneid.
Bluffton over AYERSVILLE — Not impressed with Ayersville’s one-touchdown wins over Edon and Ottawa Hills. Show me something this week Pirates.
FOSTORIA over Cardinal Stritch — Redmen wrap up a relatively soft nonconference slate with a 3-0 record.
PATRICK HENRY over Columbus Grove — Grove’s young and improving but the Bulldogs are not quite there yet.
Danbury over HARDIN NORTHERN — Polar Bears hoping for payback for last year’s beating by the Lakers. It won’t likely happen this year.
ADA over Lima Central Catholic — Chase Sumner won’t have four picks this week, but the Bulldogs still win.
LAKOTA over Ridgemont –Raiders roll and Mike Lento gets his first win as head coach.
ELMWOOD over Toledo Christian — Royals finally get to have a little bit of fun this week.
