UF Roundup: Volleyball team improves to 8-0

The University of Findlay women’s volleyball remained unbeaten with a 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 27-29 16-14 Great Midwest Athletic Conference win against Hillsdale in their home opener at Croy Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Izzy Murphy sealed the deal with a kill on the final point of the match, assisted by Hailee Olson, for the Oilers (8-0, 1-0 GMAC).
Murphy totaled 17 kills while Olson amassed 50 assists.
UF’s Amanda Winner had a match-high 21 kills and added 11 digs. New Riegel grad Kara Scherger also led all players with 26 digs.
Kara Vyletel and Paige Vanderwall had 18 kills apiece for the Chargers (7-2, 0-1).

Torres leads golfers
CARMEL, Ind. — The University of Findlay’s Makenzie Torres finished 11th individually to lead the Oilers’ women’s golf team to a ninth-place showing at Tuesday’s University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational at Prairie View Golf Course.
The Oilers followed up Monday’s 312 with a 311 Tuesday for a 36-hole score of 623 strokes.
Torres, a junior who was last year’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference medalist, finished with a 76-74–150.
After a 76 on the first day, junior Samantha Hatter shot an 81 on Tuesday to take 39th place with a 157.
Meredith Wipper and Samantha Kellstrom both shot an 82-78–160 Kristina Kniesly added a 78-83–161.
Three UF players entered the tournament as individuals.
Kelsey Koesters fired an 81-77–158, Mackenzie Keenoy finished with a 77-83–160 and Mikaela Hickey chipped in an 87-89–176 for the Oilers.
Indianapolis topped Missouri-St. Louis 588-597 for the team title. The host Greyhounds’ Pilar Echeverria was the tournament medalist with a 71-72–143.
Findlay’s next event is the Greater Midwest Athletic Conference Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Findlay Country Club.
