CAREY — Carey’s boys and girls cross country teams each came away with the home hardware Thursday as team champions of the Carey Run for the second straight year.
The boys team bested Elmwood 22-55, followed by Van Buren (83) in third, North Baltimore (85) in fourth and Pandora-Gilboa (132) in fifth. Tififn Calvert, Upper Scioto Valley, Ridgedale and Riverdale did not field full teams.
Carey’s Tyler Leist, runner-up last year, won the boys race in 17:53 ahead of Ridgedale’s Christopher Pinnick (18:18) and teammate Joe Oren (18:30).
Jack Yeater (6th, 18:50) and Gerardo Garcia (10th, 20:01) both finished in the top 10 for the Blue Devils.
Elmwood got top 10 finishes from Trevor Bingham (4th, 18:40) and Kolton Bloom (9th, 19:55) while Noah Pelton (18:41) led North Baltimore in fifth.
Carey’s girls topped North Baltimore 25-65 with Riverdale and Elmwood close behind at 67 and 69 points. Tiffin Calvert, Ridgedale, Pandora-Gilboa, Upper Scioto Valley and Van Buren didn’t field full teams.
Van Buren’s Autumn Pisarsky (21:07) and Justine Hunt (21:12) ran to a 1-2 finish in the girls race.
Five Carey girls finished in the top 10: Destiny DeFeo (3rd, 21:55), Keely Wentz (6th, 23:04), Emmy Wood (7th, 23:20) and Nellie Bianchi (9th, 24:00).
Kendra Collier was the top Riverdale finisher in fifth (22:54) while Elmwood’s Liz Hoffman just cracked the top 10 in 10th place (24:11).
