TOLEDO — The LPGA Marathon Classic donated more than $523,000 to 23 northwest Ohio-based children’s charities, a result of the 2017 tournament that was held last summer at Sylvania’s Highland Meadows Golf Club.
During its run, Toledo’s LPGA tournament has raised more than $10.3 million for 170 area charities since its inception in 1984, benefiting children in seven northwest Ohio counties.
This year’s charities were on hand for a luncheon Friday to commemorate the occasion.
Organizations receiving funds from this year’s tournament included: Autism Model School, $9,500; Cancer Connection of NW Ohio, $10,000; Century Health, $10,960; Challenged Champions Equestrian Center, $35,128; Charity Ticket Program, $11,520; Dental Center of NW Ohio “” Findlay Smiles, $16,641; Double ARC, $12,500; Epilepsy Center of NW Ohio, $5,000; Family and Child Abuse Prevention, $45,000; First Step (Sandusky Valley Domestic Violence Shelter), $10,500; First Tee of Hancock County, $35,000; Good Grief of NW Ohio, $26,000; Hancock County ADAMHS, $32,000; Miracle League of NW Ohio, $25,000; Open Arms “” Council on Domestic Violence, $16,000; Serenity Farms, $25,000; Sylvania Area Family Services, $30,000; Tiffin Seneca Public Library, $3,532; Tiffin-Seneca United Way, $25,000; Together We Can Make A Difference, $25,000; Toledo Science Center (Imagination Station), $15,000; Toledo Seagate Food Bank, $25,000; Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation, $24,000; and Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio, $50,000.
The tournament organizers also announced 17 charities that will benefit from the upcoming Marathon Classic. Those set to benefit from the 2018 tourney include: Awakening Minds Art, Baby University, Beach House, Bittersweet Farms, CASA Lucas County, Findlay Family YMCA, Historic South Initiative, Mercy Health Foundation, Mobile Meals, Raise the Bar “” Hancock County, Rally Cap Sports, Read for Literacy, Toledo Community Service Center “” Family House, University of Findlay Clubhouse Reading Center, US Together, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation.
The 2018 Marathon Classic will be held July 9-15 at Highland Meadows Golf Club with a purse of $1.6 million. All four rounds of the tournament will again be televised by The Golf Channel.
