College wrestling: Tiffin downs Roughnecks 25-14

TIFFIN — The University of Findlay wrestling team came out on the short end of a pair of overtime matches and that proved to be the difference in a 25-14 dual match loss to Tiffin University Saturday at the Gillmor Center.
The match was the annual meeting between the Route 224 rivals pitting coach (UF’s Shawn Nelson) vs. former wrestler in Tiffin head coach Joey Simcoe who was an All-American under Nelson.
The Roughnecks’ James Wimer dropped a 4-2 overtime decision to Beau Minnick at 157 while Charles Wells fell 7-5 to Nick Mason at 197 pounds to seal the win for the Dragons.
UF’s Michael Stewart stopped Rico Puente 11-3 at 133 pounds, Josh Wimer downed Collin Adkins 9-3 at 149 and Brad Metz rolled up a 15-3 victory over Mateo Lybarger at 184.
Mimmo Lytle finished off the night for UF by blanking Chase Carter 3-0 at 285 pounds.
Next up for both teams is the NCAA Division II regional Feb. 23-24 at UF’s Malcolm Athletic Center.
